Dear
[Prime Minister / Premier],
I am writing to congratulate you and your
government in working towards the establishment
of a Marine Wildlife Area for the Scott Islands
region of British Columbia.
I
strongly support the need to protect the Scott
Islands and their surrounding marine waters
within a Marine Wildlife Area designated by
Environment Canada. These islands serve as
the most important seabird colonies in the
province, and the surrounding ocean acts as
essential feeding habitat for the two million
seabirds that nest on the islands.
I
believe it is essential that the boundaries
for the Marine Wildlife Area be determined
based on the best available scientific information
regarding the foraging range of area seabirds.
I also believe it is important that landuse
activities within the MWA be restricted if
they pose a risk to the health of the seabirds
and the variety of other wildlife that depend
on this marine habitat.
I
commend you for your part in helping to establish
Canada’s first Marine Wildlife Area.
