Your help is needed in an extraordinary opportunity to create Canada’s first Marine Wildlife Area!!

Environment Canada has begun a formal process to establish a Marine Wildlife Area for the Scott Islands, British Columbia’s most important seabird colonies.

Please write the B.C. and federal governments and let them know you support the creation of the Scott Islands Marine Wildlife Area.

THE SCOTT ISLANDS AND HOW YOU CAN HELP NOW…
The Scott Islands and the surrounding habitat off the Northwest tip of Vancouver Island is one of the richest and most diverse marine ecosystems in Pacific Canada. An Important Bird Area of global significance, the Scott Islands provides essential breeding habitat for over two million breeding birds, including over half of the world’s population of Cassin’s auklets. The three sea lion rookeries in the Scott Islands are by far the most important ones along the B.C. coast.

The Canadian and British Columbian governments need to hear now that you support the protection of this spectacular area. Environment Canada has launched a formal process to establish a Marine Wildlife Area in the Scott Islands region, and have been working closely with the B.C. government to this end. Public consultations are taking place over the next few months, and are an important part of the process. Please make your voice heard.

You can help by writing, faxing, or e-mailing Prime Minister Paul Martin and B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell and letting them know that you want to see the Scott Islands protected in a Marine Wildlife Area.
