Chappice Lake is a permanent saline lake in the mixed-grass prairie region of Alberta, situated about 20km northeast of Medicine Hat and 15km southeast of the South Saskatchewan River (50° 10' N, 110° 22' W). Survey evidence showed this lake to be a critical staging area for migrating shorebirds as well as a nesting area for piping plover. Accordingly, Chappice Lake was identified as an Important Bird Area in 1998. The lands surrounding the lake are native prairie partly owned and partly leased by Cavan Ranches for grazing.
