Members of the Couchiching
Conservancy are identifying habitat for the endangered
Loggerhead Shrike. A pilot project — using
cattle and fencing to restore the short-grass nesting
conditions needed by shrikes — is planned for
the Carden Plain. The plain is one of the few areas
in eastern Canada that still support nesting Loggerhead
Shrikes.
